Physical intervention is only
to be used when all other alternatives have failed,
or when there is immediate danger to the resident
him/herself, other residents, staff and members of
the public or property. |
 |
Physical intervention should
NEVER be used in order to threaten, punish, harm
or hurt a resident. |
 |
Physical intervention should
only be sufficient to prevent any injury or damage
taking place. |
 |
Physical intervention should
be applied strictly in accordance with Adelphi Care
Services Limited's policy/procedure and recorded
in both report book and incident book. |
 |
Once applied, physical intervention
should be discontinued as soon as can be safely considered.
The length of time applied should be recorded. |
 |
Physical intervention should
never be seen as an end in itself. It should be part
of a process which should lead to a positive and
constructive outcome. |
 |
No materials or devices should
ever be used in order to restrain or restrict a resident's
movements. |
 |
Any deviation from these procedures
constitutes a serious breach of staff discipline
and will warrant instigation of the Adelphi Care
Services Limited's disciplinary process. This may
require Adelphi Care Services Limited to notify CQC
and/or POVA. |
 |
All staff are responsible for
being familiar with Individual Resident Behaviour
Management Guidelines and for only using specific
physical interventions detailed in these. |
